This suite was written with by inspiration of Granados when he visited the Prado Museum in Madrid and saw the works of Goya ffor the first time in his life.  This piano suite today is considered as representive of the Spanish piano works.. 

Since Goya was painting always about the human, Granados chose the eternal theme of human, love and death, for this suite. 
 The subtitle is "Two in love"'

He was consient this work represent his career as the composer.

It is interpretated as first performed the suite, and then El Pelele until now

However, I interpretated the contrary, meaning first El Pelele and the suite.  Because I look that this suite follows the style of Goya's painting which ends with the black painting at the end.  The last piece of the suite, Epilogo: Serenata de espectro, is written in the style of the black paintings of Goya.

I am very happy to have this CD here because from the first time I met this suite, I knew this is the piece that I record.

プラド美術館で画家ゴヤの作品を観て大変な衝撃を受けたグラナドスが、その感動を渾身の力を込めて書いた組曲です。
今日ではスペインのピアノ作品を代表する作品です。

ゴヤは常に人間を描いていたことから、グラナドスは、人類の永遠のテーマ、愛と死を基にします。副題は、恋に落ちたふたり。

彼はこれを作曲しているときから、これが自身の代表作であることを自覚していました。

従来の解釈では、まず組曲を演奏し、そのあとに藁人形という順で演奏します。
しかし私はこれは間違いであり、本当は逆となるべきで、つまり藁人形を先に、そのあと組曲の順序であるとしています。

何故なら、この組曲はゴヤの画法に並行しているから。つまり最後は黒の時代になるべきだからです。

私はこの作品に出会ったとき、これは自分がＣＤを出す曲だと直感しました。

各場面の情景が目に浮かぶような視覚的でロマンティックな作品で、スペインの習慣や文化の多くを覗くことができる素晴らしい作品です。
